Abstract

The National Quarantine Stations have been strengthening quarantine inspection of passengers from ¡°quarantinable disease risk areas¡± to prevent the inflow of patients with emerging infectious diseases and to protect the health of the people. According to the quarantine act, the director of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) can designate and release information regarding ¡°quarantinable disease risk areas¡± twice a year. From July 1, 2018, ¡°quarantinable disease risk areas¡± have changed from 59 countries to 58 countries (cholera 15; plague 1; yellow fever 42; avian influenza 1; Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) 3; polio 7), and one area has been designated as ¡°adjacent to a MERS-risk area¡± because of overseas infectious disease trends. Overseas travelers should check changes in the revised quarantinable disease risk areas before departure and submit a health questionnaire to the quarantine officers of the National Quarantine Stations if they have passed through a ¡°quarantinable disease risk areas¡± (adjacent to a MERS-risk area) at the time of entry.
